Women’s Music Network (WMN) is aimed at providing a platform to empower women, trans and gender non-binary people in music through the development of networks to recognise, create, act upon opportunities, share knowledge and seek potential collaboration within music and the arts.
The Women’s Music Network is back again on the 23rd of May! We invite all female-identifying and non-binary people in WA music to join us at The Sewing Room from 6pm as the remarkable Ofa Fotu shares her experiences as a woman in music.
Of Tongan heritage, Australian born ‘Ofa Fotu is an incredible soul singer, storyteller, visual artist and voice over artist. Best known as a collaborator and ensemble member of Hot Brown Honey, as frontwoman of funk/soul band Odette Mercy and Her Soul Atomics as Odette, or as Yellow Circle in Madd Kids animation “The Shapes”, ‘Ofa Fotu instantly captivates audiences with her remarkable vocal range.

“The Trumpet Mafia is a New Orleans icon, debuting at the New Orleans Jazz Fest 2015, its really exciitng to get this project to Australia and in particular the legendary Trumpeter – Ashlin Parker” A versatile jazz trumpeter based in New Orleans, Ashlin Parker is currently a member of Ellis Marsalis Quintet and performing at Jazz at Lincoln Center. He also leads the Trumpet Mafia and plays with numerous diverse bands, such as Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Bill Summers and Jazalsa, The Next Generation Big Band, The Original Hurricane Brass Band, Vivaz! and the Moscow-New Orleans Project.

Fresh off the success of indie-pop delight “When I had Infinity”, Singer-songwriter-producer Mat Cammarano has announced the release of his EP Shadow Calling for May 3rd and announced a co-headlining run of tour dates with Eden Mulholland.
Emperor, having proved himself with some heavyweight releases on Critical, Symmetry, Inspected, Neodigital, Ammunition and some exquisite Dubstep gems on the Caliber label all in 2011, has since gone on to become a force to be reckoned with. His debut track ‘Monolith’ released on Critical:Modulations in June 2012 absolutely destroyed dance floors across the D&B scene. This was soon followed by the incredible ‘Jackhammer EP’ on Inspected records which exposed a different creative side for the Lancashire born producer. His ‘Begin EP’ released on Critical in 2013 furthered his notoriety, dominated charts & his records continued to be heavily rotated by DJ’s worldwide. Emperor teamed-up with Mefjus, and unleashed their unstoppable ‘Hello World EP’ which sky-rocketed them to the heights of the Drum & Bass scene, with the acclaimed ‘Void Main Void’ and ‘Disrupted’. Emperor is without doubt one of the most exciting new producers in bass music, gritty mechanics combined with beautiful soundscapes, intricate sound design, and all out rawness. A distinctive sound to behold. His debut album, ‘Dispositions’, and ‘Bloodsport’ EP cemented his sound into the Drum & Bass world. Emperor is without a doubt one to take heed of.
