Women’s Music Network (WMN) May Meetup with Ofa Fotu Women’s Music Network (WMN) May Meetup with Ofa Fotu
Thursday, May 23

Women’s Music Network (WMN) is aimed at providing a platform to empower women, trans and gender non-binary people in music through the development of networks to recognise, create, act upon opportunities, share knowledge and seek potential collaboration within music and the arts.

The Women’s Music Network is back again on the 23rd of May! We invite all female-identifying and non-binary people in WA music to join us at The Sewing Room from 6pm as the remarkable Ofa Fotu shares her experiences as a woman in music.

Of Tongan heritage, Australian born ‘Ofa Fotu is an incredible soul singer, storyteller, visual artist and voice over artist. Best known as a collaborator and ensemble member of Hot Brown Honey, as frontwoman of funk/soul band Odette Mercy and Her Soul Atomics as Odette, or as Yellow Circle in Madd Kids animation “The Shapes”, ‘Ofa Fotu instantly captivates audiences with her remarkable vocal range.

The Women’s Music Network Meetup finishes at 8pm but stick around after for an amazing night of female-fronted performances from Clauds, Joan & The Giants, Hannah Mae and the Hoodwinks, Zoe Ryan and Smol Fish!

Meetings will take place every two months, with a new keynote speaker stepping up each time and sharing their story, insight, and advice with the group. Special editions of Women’s Music Network will also be held throughout the year to take advantage of any interstate or international speakers available.

In addition to regular WMN meetings, women, trans, and gender non-binary people in WA music are invited to join the Women’s Music Network (WMN) Facebook group and subscribe to the mailing list to stay up-to-date on related news.

WAM fights fiercely for a fully inclusive local music industry where artists, industry professionals and consumers of all gender identities are provided with equal opportunities to explore music without fear of discrimination.
